It seems like everyone in Toronto is in a rush lately – and with it – the politeness that is Canadian. Is it a sign of the times? Who knows? Everyone just needs to take a big collective breath and slow down – or at least find the humor in things that go wrong. People who honk their horns always make me laugh – simply because their action of honking their horn is soooo not getting them the reaction that they are hoping for.
To the person that honks their horn at me – here’s how I react. First – your horn has startled me. I know you are impatient but I’m gonna pause for a moment and let my heart stop racing – then I’m gonna pause and thank god that I didn’t accidently step on the gas and (pick one) a. ram the guy in front of me, b. run over the pedestrian in the crosswalk or c. run over the squirrel that can’t decide which side of the road it wants to be on. Second – I’m gonna look around and try to figure out who honked their horn and whether they were aiming their complaint at me. Only then – am I gonna move through the intersection.
Seriously people – think about it – when has honking your horn ever done anything useful beyond letting you blow off a little steam?
