Why dance?

Like many young dancers today – I too have questioned why I dance – beyond the fact that I love to dance.  Why not do something more meaningful with my life – like become a doctor – or work with the less fortunate.  We question what place dance and art has in the grand scheme of things.  Here are my thoughts on that question:  I am the yin to the world’s yang.  Or maybe the yang to the world’s yin (I never could get those symbols straight).  The world is a cruel place where man’s negative traits (envy, pride, jealousy, etc.) cause suffering and strife.  I am the opposite of that.  My work embodies the positive traits of man (empathy, hope, beauty, etc.).  Imagine how hopeless life would seem to be without any beauty in it.  That is why my art exists.  That is my purpose.
