Well – I call it like I see it. Everybody has a couple of Drama Queens in their lives – those people that make a big deal about a splinter in your finger and tell you that they had a friend OR they heard about a person who ignored their splinter and subsequently lost the finger. I personally think that Drama Queens are those people who don’t have much going in their lives – their lives are a little too predictable and a little too dull – therefore – the drama that they incite adds excitement to an otherwise flatline kind of existence. A Chicken Little doesn’t have to remain a Chicken Little – They could learn to be a little adventurous – go do new things, see new things, etc. – or learn to take joy in the simple tasks of daily living. Both routes are equally satisfying.
So what got me on the subject of Chicken Little? I have a problem with Chicken Little when they are dealing with children. So – Dear Chicken Little: While I do not discount your views of impending danger (everyone is entitled to their own opinions) – there is a right way and a wrong way to deliver bad news – especially when you are dealing with children. Let me put it this way: The building you are in is on fire. You can help the people in that building in one of two ways – Calmly evacuating the building which MIGHT save the entire group OR yelling “Fire” which will GUARANTEE that a few people will die in the ensuing panic and stampede. Please, please – think about how you deliver your message and save the drama for the adults who can handle it.
